Breadmaking

We are finally back to breadmaking!  I thought it was the perfect time to teach Caitlin how to make bread.  I have always loved making bread.  It is very theraputic for me.  There is something about the feel of the dough and working it with your hands and kneading that compares with nothing else, not to mention the smell that permeates the house when the bread is rising and baking! ~ann marie

Hi! It's Caitlin! I'm going to tell you how we made bread. First we had to grind the wheat to make flour. Then we poured the flour into the bowl. The way we made the flour was by grinding the wheatberries in a special mill. It sounded loud like walnuts getting crushed all at the same time.

After we added all the ingredients, I got to knead the dough. My mom told me to fold the dough one way then another in the same pattern. Sometimes it would get sticky and stick to my fingers and that meant I had to add more flour.

Next we had to let the dough rise in the oven set at 150 degrees. Then I went to soccer practice while it was rising in the oven.

When I got home from soccer practice we formed ropes and tied them to make the formation of the "Love Knots." This is my favorite part of the whole thing. It's kind of like rolling a snake in playdough and then tying a loop. Then we let them rise AGAIN! It only took 10 minutes to bake after rising.
